What if I can’t find the apprenticeship I want on the .gov website?

If you can’t find the training you want or the competition is fierce for the role, then think about sourcing your own placement. You could start by asking friends or family if they know of anyone in the business you want to work in or use a location search for a business on google. Other ways include using social media to advertise you are looking for a specific role. Once you have made contact with a business you will need to see if they are looking for a trainee or would consider giving you work or a trial to see if you fit in. If successful, your employer can make contact with a local training provider to set up the apprenticeship for you. Don’t forget that many big companies have their own school leaver career pages where they detail apprenticeships. If they run a summer programme consider joining it as this will give you more exposure to the company and increase your chances when apprenticeship opportunities arise. You can also search using jobsites such indeed.co.uk or reed.co.uk, or apprenticeship specific sites such as getmyfirstjob.co.uk. Finally, consider contacting a training provider who may well have vacancies with a local employer. Use a site such as findatrainingprovider.co.uk to search for a provider in your chosen industry.
