How can I prepare for an interview? You will be surprised by how much preparation you can do. Read these tips on planning for success in the interview: 1. Research the organisation Spend time researching the company or organisation that you are being interviewed for. You should know the company’s services, products, customers and competition. Pay particular attention to the company’s website and even research new stories about the organisation or talk to someone who works or has worked there. Most interviewers are likely to ask you a question such as “What do you know about us?”, so do your research. 2. Prepare for commonly asked questions and know the interview format A quick internet search will give you an idea of the kind of questions a company might ask and the format of the interview. Interviews may be formal or informal, follow a set series of questions or have no structure, may focus on your CV or use an objective competency or skill-based question format. Preparing a short response to a range of questions beforehand will equip you for the interview. You should also think of some

questions to ask the employer at the end of the interview which could be about the role, training, benefits or progression opportunities. Here are some typical interview questions: • Tell me about yourself? • What attracted you to our company? • Tell me about your strengths? • What are your weaknesses? • Where do you see yourself in five years? • How do you manage your time? • What are the most important things you are looking for in your next role? • Tell us about a challenging situation and how you dealt with it? • Why did you leave your last role?
