Portfolio For some interviews employers may require you to bring a portfolio to showcase your work. These are typical in design industries such as graphic design, publishing, media, architecture, product design, animation and film. Many candidates set up a website portfolio that they link to their CV giving hiring managers ample opportunity to review their work. A good portfolio should include: a contents page, your CV or bio, examples of relevant work that demonstrates your strengths and creative ideas. For the interview make sure that you can confidently explain each item and the reasoning behind your approach. Decide on the right medium for your presentation. You could use print, video or a PowerPoint presentation. Make sure the work is as professional as possible, e.g. use a professional printer for any graphic work you intend to display.
Example questions • What would you do if you made a strong recommendation in a meeting but your colleagues were against it? • How would you handle it if the priorities for a project you were working on were suddenly changed? • What would you do if an important task was not up to standard but the deadline to complete it had passed? Informal Informal interviews involve a conversation without a structured format as a guide. This type of interview may occur when the employer is still formulating the role or if funding has not been guaranteed to begin a formal process. The informal interview could take place with a recruiter seeking to match you to a role or as a preliminary round and provides the opportunity for you to ask about the company, the role and why they reached out to you. These interviews often take place outside the office in a casual format such as over lunch or coffee. Although they are relaxed interactions don’t forget that you are still being assessed for the role.
