The majority are small businesses with 95% employ less that 10 staff. Over 65% are self employed and the majority are women under 34 years of age. If you want to gain access to this industry then developing a good rapport with a local business will help you gain an apprenticeship or work after college. So be prepared to network, start part time doing basic tasks and supporting where you can to make yourself employable. Do consider that your future may be self employed so start to learn about business operations, customer service and marketing. There are a range of trends in the sector around sustainability,inclusive beauty with products for all skin, hair types and genders techological integration as companies explore viritual experiences and artificial intelligence to support customers with skin analysis, virtual try-ons and other product recommendations. Keep an eye on future trends as more job opportunities will become available in non-traditional settings such as medical and dental practices and in supermarkets. Tesco, for example, has recently opened a trial salon at one of its stores and is looking to open 70 beauty stores across the country. Recent trends also suggest that there will be an increased demand for sales staff, male grooming specialists and cosmetic scientists. Cosmectic brands are increasingly moving online and are looking to expand their digital talent. Alternatively, if you have the right level of experience, you could consider self employment or board ship to be a cruiseline beautician or therapist .
