Business Administration
Sector Outlook One of the largest administration sectors is the public service. There are a vast range of jobs across government that require individuals with administration, organisation, communication and leadership skills. The public service has grown from 2 million in 1999 to almost 4 million people to date. Jobs exist across wide work force areas such as local government, education, hospitals, prisons, social and care services, agencies, departments and public bodies. A simple look at the civil service recruitment website www.civilservicejobs.service.gov.uk will give you some indication of what's available. Administrators are not just needed in the public sector but also private, charity and other not for profit businesses. Take a look at the housing assocation chart, local goverment chart for ideas on administration in those sectors or look at human resources for other types of administration support that businesses need. I f you are prepared to develop your skills to a higher level, you will have a better chance of finding the job you want. In fact employment opportunities for people who can offer additional skills such as customer care, ICT or knowledge of a language are predicated to rise. In contrast employees with a low level of skill are likely to experience job cuts in large organisations such as the Health Service. Overall the sector is large enough to continue providing a significant number of jobs especially for employees who are willing to use the implementation of new technology to work remotely.
