Somerhill Review 2023/24
THE SOMERHILL REVIEW 2023/24
Association PARENTS’ We have had a bumper year of events at Somerhill!
In the Michaelmas term, Christmas celebrations began at our Christmas Fair. Children across the school bounced, decorated, crafted, guessed, and posed at various stalls as the Bickmore Hall was filled with the buzz of festive spirit. Food vans and a wonderful cake stall, filled with delicious bakes from Somerhill parents, ensured pupils were fuelled for the fun, and parents enjoyed a well-deserved coffee! The following week, our wreath-making workshops were a great success, with Emma Lawson of ‘Fabulous Wreaths, Darling’, one of our Year 1 parents, expertly guiding people through the process. Early in the Lent term, we held the school’s traditional Burns Night. Guests were welcomed to the sound of bagpipes, and following a Champagne reception, guests ascended into the beautiful, candlelit Grand Salon. The haggis itself was
celebrated with a piped tour of the room, a spirited rendition of Burns’ Address to a Haggis and a dram of whisky! A delicious four-course meal followed, courtesy of our catering team at Somerhill. Later, dancing shoes were donned, and the Mansion Hall was filled with laughter, spinning, and stamping feet! At the Quiz Night, it was the turn of Somerhill parents to be put on the spot by the teachers! Headmaster, Duncan Sinclair, was Question Master and teams of 8 battled through the rounds, ranging from the ever-popular sport, geography, and general knowledge to the ‘guess the film through emojis’ questions, a high scoring round for all teams! The chance to win a bottle of bubbly by crafting something with straws, sellotape, and scissors to represent ‘The Olympic Games 2024’ produced a brilliant selection of towering structures and inventive models…some with euro bribes attached!
