TRAVEL AND TOURISM

BTEC NATIONAL EXTENDED CERTIFICATE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Grade 9-4 in five GCSE’s including a minimum Grade 4 in English and Mathematics. COURSE DESCRIPTION This qualification is designed to support students who are interested in learning about the travel and tourism industry alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses or employment within the tourism industry. The qualification is divided into four units of study (three compulsory and one optional). The three compulsory units cover: Unit 1: The World of Travel and Tourism Unit 2: Global Destinations Unit 3: Principles in Marketing Travel and Tourism Students then complete one of the following optional units: Unit 9: Visitor Attractions Unit 11: Events, Conferences and Exhibitions ASSESSMENT Grades awarded are Distinction*, Distinction, Merit and Pass. Students are assessed through the completion of two course work units (50%), a controlled assessed unit completed over two days (25%) and a written examination (25%). WHAT NEXT Completion of this qualification will give between 16 and 56 UCAS points, to be used to gain entry onto a degree course or entry into the workplace. Travel and Tourism can lead to further study and careers including Tourism, Entertainment or Project Management related careers, travel advisers, employment in the hospitality/tourism industry.
