Yearly Life at Somerhill

A big debate at Somerhill Blaise, Sophie, Matilda and Amalie travelled to The New Beacon on Thursday 20th March where they took part in an inter-school debating competition against teams from The New Beacon and Solefield School. They competed in three debates following British Parliamentary Rules. The topic was modern technology, and our teams spoke persuasively on ‘Should robots replace teachers?’, ‘Is YouTube better than television?’ and ‘Tablets should replace textbooks in schools.’ They answered their opponents’ questions, rebutted the opposing arguments and were incredibly confident and well informed. They were delighted to win the competition and the judge reported back that their arguments were particularly well-structured and clearly communicated. This term’s debating club has been a great place for Somerhill pupils to practise and improve their debating skills and we look forward to future events.
