Yearly Life at Somerhill
Year 2 take on a real-world challenge This term, Year 2 embarked on an exciting and innovative project, tackling a real-life challenge in the pre-prep: finding a practical solution for storing over 400 pairs of wellington boots! From start to finish, the pupils took full ownership of the project, supported and guided when needed by their teachers. They conducted in-depth research, measured spaces, evaluated materials, and carefully considered costs. One of the most inspiring moments came from Sophie, a Year 2 pupil, who reflected on the experience: “Working in a group rather than individually is better because actually, you need help sometimes.” The children, in their groups, presented their pitches to a panel of judges including our Head of Pre-Prep, Mrs McKnight and Mr Hunt, our Bursar. They presented with great confidence and really impressed our judges. At Somerhill, we are committed to nurturing real-world skills that prepare our pupils for life beyond the classroom. This project is just the beginning, and we look forward to many more opportunities for our students to tackle meaningful challenges in the years to come.
