Yearly Life at Somerhill
History explorations for Somerhill pupils Year 5 visit to Bodiam Castle
Year 5 visited Bodiam Castle as part of a study of the development of castles in England. The children toured the site, identifying the castle’s key features, and looking for evidence that the castle was built with both luxury and defence in mind. Back at school, they have successfully written mini-essays discussing Bodiam Castle’s main purpose. All the children had a lovely time and engaged with the history brilliantly.
Year 7 medieval life talk Year 7 enjoyed a visit from Happening Histories. They learned about everything from medieval guilds to the rivalries between England’s royal houses, and everything in between! Trying on armour was a highlight for them, helping them to visualise the soldiers of the Hundred Years War, which they will be studying next term. Discussing medieval life and medicine helped solidify their thinking ahead of writing essays in lesson time which discussed the extent of change after the arrival of the Black Death in England.
