Yearly Life at Somerhill

Somerhill pupils excel in maths challenge

Recently, some of our Year 6 children and all our Year 7 and 8 boys had the opportunity to sit the Junior Maths Challenge. Once again, we had tremendous success, achieving 57 certificates overall – including 11 Gold awards for scoring over 91 out of 135. A special mention goes to Rufus (Year 6), who achieved the highest score in the school with a highly commendable 118! Of our Gold award winners, seven boys have qualified for the bonus round in June by scoring over 100 in the main challenge. The Junior Mathematical Challenge (JMC) is a national mathematics competition organised by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT), designed to stimulate mathematical reasoning and problem-solving among students in Year 8 and below. The top 6% of participants across the UK earn Gold, and the top 1% qualify for the next round.
