Yearly Life at Somerhill

Outdoor adventures in maths! Learning often takes place outside the classroom here at Somerhill and this term pupils have spent lots of time exploring our glorious parkland and woods during their maths lessons. Pupils in Years 4 and 5 made compound shapes from sticks and then measured the lengths to find the area and perimeter of the shape. They then had to match up nets and 3D shapes, and construct them from natural resources found in the woods. Year 6 developed their orienteering skills to navigate to different points on the school grounds and used teamwork skills to solve fraction problems. Outdoor learning inspires our pupils to apply their classroom knowledge in a practical way and develop their teamwork and problem-solving skills.
