Student Medication

All student medication requires a completed Medical Consent Form, which confirms details of the medication that is prescribed for the student and how the medication is to be administered. Medical Consent Forms can be downloaded from the Academy website, alternatively they can be collected from the Academy’s Reception. In the event that a student needs emergency treatment, the Academy will telephone the emergency services and will then telephone the contact persons as provided by you in the priority order that you have given. Should it be necessary, a member of staff will accompany the student to hospital and remain until your arrival. Medical Consent Forms will be renewed throughout the academic year to ensure that any changes are picked up and medication is changed, updated or destroyed. If your child is taking short term medication, such as antibiotics the Academy will only administer these types of medication if they are to be taken at specific times during the day. For medication that needs to be taken three times a day this can be taken at home. Students are not permitted to carry any medication around with them during the Academy day, unless a request to carry

medication form has been submitted and agreed with the Health and Safety Advisor or Appointed First Aider. All prescribed medication must be in its original pharmacy label stating the child's name, medication and dosage and handed to the First Aid Room with a completed consent form. Over the counter medication such as paracetamol/antihistamine will only be accepted if agreed by the Health and Safety Advisor or Appointed First Aider and must be handed to the First Aid Room in its original packaging with a completed consent form. The Academy hold a small amount of emergency medication such as paracetamol/antihistamine and will not be administered before 11am, unless agreed by the Health and Safety Advisor or Appointed First Aider and consent has been gained from a parent/carer. Only one dose will be administered during the Academy day and will be at the Academy's discretion. The Academy holds emergency Salbutamol asthma inhalers which we can administer to students who have been diagnosed with asthma and prescribed a reliever inhaler and for whom written parental consent for use of the emergency inhaler has been given.

Please contact the Lead Emergency First Aider regarding any questions or concerns around student medication by emailing reception@universityofkentacademiestrust. org.uk or by telephoning 01634 852341. For diabetic students, students with serve allergies that require an adrenalin pen or students that require regular use of an inhaler, a request to carry medication form will need to be completed by a parent/carer and may also require an Individual Health Care Plan [IHCP] to be in place. If you should have any questions or concerns around student medication in the Eliot Centre, please contact the Eliot Centre Admin Assistant by emailing officeBA@universityofkentacademiestrust. org.uk
