THE SOMERHILL REVIEW 2023/24
Year 8 Leavers’
the French Alps
trip to
An extreme Alps adventure and epic train-travel experience that will have forged lasting friendships opened eyes to all sorts of possibilities and created memories of a lifetime. Our Year 8 Leavers did very well to survive eight days in the French Alps and the five trains it took to get there. This was on top of countless bag repacking operations and last-minute logistics due to the unseasonal weather (to put it mildly!), along with challenging trip preparation activities that included Leavers’ Programme outings to the Maidstone Climbing Experience, Bedgebury Pinetum, and Bewl Water. Rather than just survive, the boys chose to thrive - some even earning themselves ‘Alpine Marmot’ and ‘Mountain GOAT’ status! Indeed, they can be very proud of themselves overcoming so many obstacles, both literal and figurative, and for the way they bonded as a group, entertained their guides and inspired their accompanying staff members. Well done, and thank you to the Year 8 Leavers, their Parents - and Mrs ‘Bear-Grylls’ Barker!
