Yearly Life at Somerhill

Year 6 have made some amazing Pop Art soft sculptures inspired by Claes Oldenburg! They have developed cutting skills, using templates on felt, appliqué and overstitch to create a colourful selection of donuts and lollies.

Year 8 have been preparing for their 'Journeys' exhibition at Tonbridge School next term. ‘Journeys’ is a creative response to the exhibition, ‘Almost Nothing But Blue Ground’, which the boys visited in October last year at the OBS Gallery, Tonbridge. Since then, they have been working collaboratively in small groups, researching various historical and artistic connections with Somerhill and planning and making journeys of their own. The resulting works, including cyanotypes, performance pieces and video, reflect their findings.

Year 7 have completed their first PSB project and have created some superb sculptures inspired by machines and the artist, Frank Stella. Pupils were only allowed to use acetate, on which their lino prints had been copied, coloured card, wire and netting. The results are wonderfully abstract and demonstrate an understanding of shape and form.
