Yearly Life at Somerhill

Year 7 visit Stratford The Year 7 boys visited Stratford in East London and the site of the 2012 London Olympics as part of their study of urbanisation and the Olympic Legacy. They walked around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, taking in some of the iconic London 2012 landmarks. They also undertook a questionnaire with members of the public in the East Village in order to find out how the regeneration of the area had benefitted them personally. By contrast, the boys also visited the Carpenters Estate, a council estate built in the 1970s, to investigate how the city's regeneration helped to rebuild the area and how its impact also adversely affected some of the population. It was also a beneficial experience for the boys to see where other people live and for them to understand how the London 2012 Olympics and the Olympic Legacy has had very limited benefits for some of the residents and workers of Stratford, East London.
