What is the purpose of a cover letter?
The main aim of a cover letter is to show potential employers that you understand the role thoroughly, you have a clear grasp of the company and its values, and that you have the skills and aptitudes to be successful in the given position. Where your CV will cover your qualifications, previous work experience, key skills and interests, your cover letter is where you show your employer who you are as an individual. It is your chance to sell yourself and convince your employer to hire you over the other applicants with similar CVs and qualifications. It adds another layer to your job application that allows prospective employers to build upon their impression of you, so it is essential that you ensure your cover letter successfully proves why you are the ideal choice. You need to give clear examples and convince employers that you do have the abilities and skills stated in your CV.
